Please note:
All cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible, non-refundable and near-untraceable. A QR Code of a cryptocurrency wallet address such as Bitcoin is not linked to a personal identity or geographic location - online or offline. Therefore, all Localcoin transactions are final and non-refundable [see Localcoin's Terms of Service §2,3 & 13].
Firstly, we recommend you take the following actions as soon as possible:
- New Zealand Police: If you suspect fraud or have been defrauded, you can report directly to the police. They handle a wide range of criminal activities including fraud.
- Serious Fraud Office (SFO): This agency deals with serious and complex fraud cases, especially those that have significant financial or public interest implications. They investigate and prosecute major financial crimes.
- Commerce Commission: If the fraud involves deceptive business practices or breaches of the Fair Trading Act, you can report it to the Commerce Commission. They handle cases where businesses may have misled consumers or engaged in anti-competitive practices.
- Department of Internal Affairs: This department can be approached if the fraud involves spam emails, identity theft, or other forms of digital fraud. They also oversee non-profit and gambling-related activities, so frauds related to these areas can also be reported here.
- Financial Markets Authority (FMA): If the fraud relates to financial services or markets, such as investment scams or misconduct by financial advisors, you should report it to the FMA.
- CertNZ: For cyber fraud or security threats involving technology and the internet, CertNZ provides assistance and advice on how to handle and report cyber incidents.
- If applicable - Notify the gaming site, dating site, job site, or social media site where you first encountered the third party to inform them of a fraudulent member.
Next, please contact our Support Team and include:
- A written statement containing a detailed description of what happened to you (who contacted you, what did they say, what were you asked to do, etc.);
- A reference to your transaction. Ideally the Transaction ID is the easiest way to locate your transaction which is found on the receipt. If you do not have this, please provide a description of the date, time, location, and amount of the transaction.
- Any screenshots of the individual(s) who contacted you. This can be a screenshot of the text messages they sent you or conversations via email.
We will contact you with any follow-up questions we may have regarding this situation.
